Rabat – The Moroccan consulate in Naples helped a number of its citizens living in southern Italy this weekend to complete procedures, such as applying for national identity cards, in a bid to bring administrative services closer to Moroccans living there.
Naples’ Consulate General of Morocco organized a mobile consulate to bring its services closer to the Moroccan community living in Bari, in the Puglia region.
The mobile consulate helped the Moroccans with a number of procedures including civil status registry, delivery of documents between Morocco and Italy, and applications for national identity cards and passports, the consulate said in a press release.
The mobile consulate also provided signature verification on documents giving people power of attorney
Naji stated that this initiative is a part of the “royal directives” aimed at taking care of the Moroccan community abroad by bringing administrative services closer to them and enabling them to benefit from them in the best of circumstances.
The Moroccan community in Bari welcomed this initiative, with 627 members attending it at the headquarters of the Bari municipality where the mobile consulate took place.
During the initiative, the Consul General of Morocco Abdelkader Naji held meetings with a number of political figures in the region, such as the mayors of Bari, Lecce, and Latiano.
The meetings focused on the living conditions of the Moroccan community in municipalities, as well as how the Consulate General and municipalities can work together on issues relating to their Moroccan population.
Naji praised the Moroccan community’s effort to improve the country’s image and devotion to Moroccan cultural values.
The Moroccan diaspora living in Italy is estimated to stand at more than 487,000, representing Italy’s third-largest foreign population.
