Rabat – Morocco and the EU on Wednesday launched a project to strengthen and modernize the postal service in the North African country.
The Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour announced the launch of the project during a meeting with France’s ambassador to Morocco, Helene Le Gal and the Head Deputy of the European Union Delegation in Morocco, Alessio Cappellani on March 23.
Mezzour said that the postal sector is at the heart of the partnership with the EU.
“This cooperation will allow the postal sector in Morocco to correct its image by achieving efficient gains,” the Moroccan minister.
The project has three objectives, including the creation of a postal market observatory, and enhancing the institutional and methodological power of the postal sector.
The French ambassador to Morocco expressed satisfaction with the project, emphasizing the importance of EU-Morocco partnership.
“I would like to thank the Moroccan authorities and the European Union for the precious trust they have placed in France to achieve this [bilateral cooperation], which constitutes a new opportunity to strengthen the exceptional partnership linking Morocco and France,”Le Gall said.

Cappellini also commented on the launch of the project, saying: “we hope that this project will contribute strongly to the many challenges of modernizing the Moroccan postal sector, especially with regards to strengthening [the institutional aspect of the postal sector], which remains crucial to building a competitive and incentive framework in this field.”
Officials from Morocco and the EU have met regularly to decide bilateral policies on cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, society, and culture. The EU includes some of Morocco’s largest foreign investors.
