Rabat – Morocco is attempting to streamline tax procedures through a digital platform and address the ongoing crisis surrounding high gas prices.
The platform aims to facilitate tax payments to regional authorities, in order to preserve the purchasing power of Moroccans in light of the global rise in fuel prices and cost of living.
During its weekly council on Thursday, March 17, 2022, the Moroccan government approved decree 2.22.176 to create a digital platform for Moroccans to carry out payment operations to regional authorities.
The platform will save Moroccans the trouble of traveling to the headquarters of the tax administration in charge of administering their fees.
The ministries of interior and finance are in charge of determining how declarations and payments to regional authorities will occur in the future.
During last week’s Government Council, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch promised to tackle the problem of the rising cost of living and disclosed plans to support transport professionals amid fuel inflation.
In addition, the Government Council approved draft decree 2.22.207, which aims to include new beneficiaries in the national social protection project.
The project added new occupational categories in the list of categories and subcategories of professionals, independent workers, and other private sector workers.
The newly added categories include owners of traditional fishing boats with no social security, social workers, independent journalists who hold a professional press card, independent corporate managers, independent athletes, sports personnel, and independent workers who engage in any income-generating activity.
Akhannouch has also deliberated and approved decree 2.22.208 related to compulsory health insurance and the creation of a pension system.
The decree is introduced to track the implementation of compulsory health insurance for independent contractors who registered in the national registry after December 31, 2021.
The Council of Government concluded its meeting by touching on the bilateral agreement for trade and investment cooperation that Morocco and Israel signed on February 21, 2022.
