Rabat – Moroccan singer Zakaria Al Zirek has won the 13th edition of Munshid Al Sharjah Competition 2022.

Organized by Sharjah TV and the Sharjah Radio and Television, the competition took place from March 24 to 31 in the United Arab Emirates.

Six vocalists specialized in nasheed represented six Arab countries on the final evening of the event.

Nasheed is a music genre praising Prophet Mohammed or reciting religious songs.

Second place in the competition went to Jordanian vocalist Ahmed Samreen, while third place went to Algerian vocalist Aseel Jaber.

The three vocalists won the competition after receiving the highest percentage of votes from the audience and the jury.

The jury included Tunisian artist Lotfi Bouchnak, Emirati singer Ahmed Bukhatir, and the famous Egyptian vocalist Sheikh Mahmoud Yassin Al Tohamy.

Al-Zirek received the award from Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Qasimi the Deputy ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Media council in the final ceremony, on the evening of March 31.

During the award ceremony, the international artist Maher Zain performed a number of poems and religious songs, including “O Prophet, peace be upon you”, “Peace be upon you”, and “God willing”.

He also performed the “Ramadan” chant on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The jury praised the participants’ chanting skills and predicted a bright future for them, which has been one of the program’s goals since its launch.

A total of 1,240 nasheed contestants from around the world participated in the program, thanks to auditions held as far as Bosnia, Chad, and Malaysia.

The United Arab Emirates has announced that Saturday, April 2 marks the first day of Ramadan in the country.
