Rabat – Morocco’s Food Safety Office (ONSSA) has announced urgent measures against certain batches of Kinder chocolate because of suspected links to Salmonella.

ONSSA said its measures include reinforcement of control of all products from multinational company Ferrero to avoid the marketing of Kinder batches with a possible link to Salmonella.

Salmonella is a bacteria that affects the intestinal tract. People with Salmonella often show symptoms, such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.

The measures also include the immediate withdrawal of all batches of the products concerned from both retailers and wholesalers.

The products concerned are Kinder Surprise products between  20 grams and 100 grams, with expiry dates between the end of June 2022 and the end of October 2022.

The products concerned also include Kinder Schoko-Bons with expiry dates between the end of April and the end of August 2022, as well as Kinder Mini Eggs with expiry dates between the end of April and the end of August 2022.

ONSSA is also taking the same measure against Kinder Happy Moments and Kinder Mix.

ONSSA calls on all consumers to refrain from buying the products whose references are indicated among the suspected list of Salmonella infected chocolate..

The food standards office’s actions came after the UK registered 63 salmonella cases linked to Kinder chocolate.

The second-largest chocolate producer Fererro announced that it is recalling Kinder Surprise eggs from the UK market after being linked to over 60 cases of Salmonella.

“We are voluntarily recalling selected batches of Kinder Surprise as a precautionary step since we have become aware of a possible link to a number of reported cases of salmonella,” Ferrero said. Most of the cases are children aged five and under, BBC said earlier this week.

Cases of the disease also appeared in Ireland, France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
