Rabat – King Mohammed VI and King Abdullah II of Jordan held talks on Monday about the regional developments in Jerusalem,  following Israeli raids at  Al Aqsa mosque.

King Mohammed VI and the King of Jordan discussed the latest development in a phone conversation, according to a statement from the Moroccan royal cabinet.

Both Morocco and Jordan condemned the recent Israeli raids on the Al Aqsa mosque. Israeli troops attacked Palestinians in the Al Aqsa mosque on Friday last week, causing injuries to 150 Palestinians.

Israeli forces carried out a second raid at the Al Aqsa mosque on Sunday, injuring dozens of Palestinians.

In response to the attacks, Morocco issued a communique on April 16, condemning the Israeli raid on the Al-Aqsa mosque.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Morocco strongly denounced “the Israeli occupation forces’ invasion of Al-Aqsa mosque, the closing of its gates, and assaulting worshippers inside the mosque and in its courtyards.”

The statement added the attack is a blatant violation and methodical provocation, especially because it happened during the month of Ramadan, a holy month for Muslims.

“[The attack] can strengthen feelings of contempt, hate, and extremism, and kill chances of achieving a peaceful solution in the region,” the ministry said.

Morocco also called on the UN  and the international community to “urgently intervene and put an end to these violations against  the Palestinian people and their holy sites.”

Jordan echoed Morocco’s concern, in a statement from Jordan’s King Abdullah, in which he condemned the “provocative” Israeli actions against Muslims in Al Aqsa mosque.

On Monday both Morocco and Jordan reiterated that the escalation would “increase feelings of hatred, extremism and would destroy the chances of reviving the peace process in the region.”

In addition to Palestine, King Mohammed VI also checked on the Jordanian monarch’s health after the surgery he underwent recently.

King Abdullah II of Jordan is recovering from surgery on a slipped disc.

Morocco and Jordan share good diplomatic relations, with diplomatic visits and agreements that are aimed at strengthening cooperation on all levels.

Jordan is also among the countries that support Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara.
