Rabat – The National Tourist Office (ONMT) started a new campaign on Friday, seeking to promote Morocco as a holiday destination to an international market.
“Morocco, the Land of Light” seeks to list Morocco among “the world’s most coveted tourist destinations to reinforce its notoriety and attractiveness in the international market,” the office said.
The brand also looks to strengthen Morocco’s trendy image, particularly among new generations of travelers.
ONMT’s general director Abdel El Fakir said the campaign will be launched gradually, in 19 markets.
Countries in ONMT’s target market include France, Spain, Germany, the UK, US, and Israel, as well as African and Middle Eastern states.
The campaign will seek to attract tourists aged between 25 and 59, including art enthusiasts, and people that are interested in beaches, culture, and nature.
Morocco’s ONMT campaign will focus on touting the country’s natural resources, as well as its geographic diversity.
The new campaign is part of ONMT’s vision to attract more tourists and tourism operators. The vision stems from the country’s approach to reviving the tourism sector, which is one of the industries badly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
Morocco has been under a state of emergency since March 2020, which means that authorities can enact measures such as a mandatory curfew or travel restrictions if the epidemiological situation worsens.
Throughout the COVID-19 period, Morocco has been introducing travel restrictions as part of its approach to tackle the pandemic and limit its spread.
In November 2021, the North African country announced airspace closure, resulting in the suspension of international travel until February 2022.
The travel restriction impacted both the country’s and airlines’ revenues.
To revive the market, the ONMT has launched several campaigns following the reopening of the border. The office’s representatives also traveled to several markets, including in the UK, Spain, and France to meet with tourism operators and attract visitors and airlines to intensify their travel programs to Morocco.
