Rabat – Moroccan athlete Jawad Abdelmoula has won the gold medal at the 2022 Europe Triathlon Cup in Yenisehir, Turkey.
Abdelmoula completed the triathlon on April 17 in 51:10 minutes in the elite men’s category, two seconds ahead of Hungary’s Casongor Lehmann and four seconds ahead of Germany’s Henry Graf.
The multisport and endurance race in Yenisehir included 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of biking, and 1 kilometer of running.
“Looking at his running style, it was clear that Abdelmoula was struggling the least and eager to pull off a nice final sprint. And that’s exactly what happened, because with a few hundred meters to go, Abdelmoula took off,” said Triathlon Today magazine.
Abdelmoula took to social media to share his victory, receiving messages of support from the Moroccan public.
Morocco’s Royal Federation of Triathlon also celebrated his impressive accomplishment.

“Congratulations to our great champion Jawad Abdelmoula for his extraordinary performance today at the European Cup in Turkey,” the federation said.
Born in 1994, Abdelmoula is the second-best triathlete in Africa and 61st best in the world, according to the World Triathlon organization. He has won 6 medals, 5 of them gold.
Earlier this year, the Moroccan athlete secured the top spot in the 2022 Europe Triathlon Cup in Lievin, France in the qualifier race, before being disqualified in the final race.
His other three wins took place in 2021 at the Asia Triathlon Cup in Doha, Qatar, Africa Triathlon Cup in Dakhla, Morocco, and World Triathlon Cup in Tongyeong, South Korea.
