Rabat – The Moroccan passport has been ranked 80th internationally in the 2022 Q2 Henley index of most powerful passports in the world.
According to the company’s latest report, the Moroccan passport ranked 80th in the second quarter of 2022, down by one place from the first quarter of 2022.
The Moroccan passport allows its holders visa-free travel to 64 countries throughout the world, maintaining the visa-free score achieved in the first quarter of 2022.
The index ranks passports of 199 countries worldwide, based on the number of destinations their holders can go to without a visa.
Morocco ranked second in North Africa, behind Tunisia (73rd globally), with the Mauritanian passport coming in third (85th globally), Algeria and Egypt ranking fourth (92nd), and Libya in the fifth spot (104th globally).
Morocco’s passport ranked seventh in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA), following first place holder the United Arab Emirates passport (15th globally), and Qatar with second place (55th globally), while Kuwait ranked third (56th globally).
Bahrain’s passport ranked fourth in the Arab world (63rd globally), followed by Oman (65th globally) and Saudi Arabia (66th globally).
Morocco ranks 18th in Africa, behind first place holder Seychelles (28th globally), Mauritius, second in Africa and 31st globally, and South Africa third in Africa and 53rd globally.
Leading the global ranking are Japan and Singapore’s passports, which have once again ranked first as the most powerful passports in the world, allowing their holders to enter 192 countries without a visa.
Germany and South Korea hold joint-second place. Holders of the two passports are eligible to travel to 190 destinations without a visa.
Meanwhile, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Spain tie for third place, with a visa-free score of 189.
According to the report, the Russia-Ukraine war has impacted travel freedom and led to significant changes in the passport index, such as a decline in the value of the Russian passport (49th globally)
The results of the ranking are based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
