Rabat – Rabat will host the 16th edition of King Mohammed Karate Championship from May 13 to May 15, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the Royal Moroccan Karate Federation (FRMK) announced on its Facebook page last month.
This event is organized as part of the Karate Premier League 1, which is organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF) and is one of the biggest karate events in the world.
Karate fans can watch the championship on the WKF YouTube channel, where it will be streamed live for all karate enthusiasts around the world to see. The official draw to determine the matchups in the event will also be streamed live on the WKF YouTube channel on Thursday, May 12, at 19:00 Moroccan time.
The Karate Premier League consists of several prominent Karate competitions where participants can gain points in order to win the overall event. It aims to bring together the strongest Karate athletes in the world in open tournaments. It is held several times every year in different countries, with the aim of giving the opportunity to all karate professional athletes to participate.
The general rules of the event state that karate athletes must wear their Karategi (karate outfit) with blue and red embroidery on the shoulders.
The Karate Premier League 2022 was already held in two cities before — the first time in Fujairah in the UAE on February 18-20, and the second time in Matosinhos, Portugal, from April 22 to 24.
The next Karate 1 Premier League will be held from September 2 to 4 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Karate Premier League was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rabat previously hosted the Karate 1 Premier League in April 2019. Switzerland won that event with 800 points, while Italy came in 2nd with 775 points, and Russia placed 3rd with 725 points.
Morocco ranked fifth with 16 medals in the 28th edition of the Mediterranean Karate championship in October 2021, which was held in Cyprus.
The country had won the 2019 and the 2020 Karate African Championships, cementing its status as one of Africa’s best Karate countries.
