Rabat – Dubai-based logistics and transportation company Aramex has opened a new branch in Laayoune to expand its operations in Morocco.

The new branch seeks to address “increasing demand from B2B and B2C customers for faster and more reliable delivery solutions,” Aramex reported on Monday in a press release.

Located in El Qods neighborhood, the strategic branch “will reduce the time needed for pick-up and drop-off, further improve delivery service levels,” said Emad Mabrouk, General Manager of Aramex in Morocco.

Hussam Al-Baraqouni, Aramex’s Vice President for MENA and Turkey, echoed Mabrouk’s statement, stressing the company’s interest in the fast-growing Moroccan logistics and transportation industry.

Al-Baraqouni noted that the launch of Aramex’s Laayoune branch reflects the company’s plan to consolidate its market position in North Africa by expanding its operations in Morocco, a “key market” for the company.

“We will continue to invest in more branches and facilities in the Kingdom and leverage its strategic geographic location and infrastructure to serve a wider customer base,” he added.

In 1999, Aramex established its Casablanca logistics hub, launching its operations in Morocco. Currently, Aramex operates in 10 locations across the country with a network of vehicles, warehouses, and distribution facilities.

Laayoune’s branch will bring Aramex’s total operations to more than 38,100 square meters of logistics infrastructure, serving customers in 350 cities. The company seeks to reach 550 cities worldwide by 2023.

As Aramex works on extending its operations in Morocco, it is facing competition from rising logistics regional and international companies.

In late April, China’s 4PX partnered with Jumia, Africa’s leading e-commerce platform, to expand their customers base in the continent. Nigeria-based Jumia has more than 3,000 drop-off and pick-up stations in 11 African countries.

Currently, Jumia Morocco has more than 10,000 sellers offering more than 8 million products, with millions of customers visiting the website every month.
