Rabat’s AS FAR won Morocco’s Throne Cup title after a 3-0 victory earlier today against Tetouan’s MAT at Agadir’s Adrar Stadium.
The game started with mixed feelings for both teams. AS FAR vied to win their 12th Cup Throne title, while Maghreb Athletic Tetouan aspired to build on their first-ever qualification to the final and clinch a long-awaited domestic title.
Less than three minutes after the game kicked off, referee Bouchra Karboubi, the first female referee to officiate the Throne Cup, sent off Maghreb Athletic Tetouan forward Hamza Hannouri after a hazardous tackle against AS FAR goalkeeper Ayoub Lakred.
The early dismissal pushed MAT players to full back and defend the net against the attacks of the energized AS FAR players.
Outnumbering their Tetouanais counterparts, AS FAR tried to push hard, consecutively threatening the MAT goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, the Tetouan-based club resorted to swift counter-attacks, attempting to surprise the Rabat club.
As time progressed, the grueling game grew duller, with the MAT squad clinging to their defensive line and trying to keep their goalkeeper out of reach for the AS FAR players.
For their part, despite being supported by the ecstatic chants of their fans, AS FAR players failed to create fruitful attempts and take a lead in the game.
Having not much to discuss in the first half, the referee blew the whistle of the first half, giving both teams a chance to refresh and re-organize their lines.
Fresh off the tunnels, AS FAR tried to break through the MAT’s well-compact defense.
Launching one attack after the other, the Rabat club succeeded to score the game’s opener in the 55th-minute by the center-defender Diney Borges.
Relieved by their first goal, AS Far pushed even harder, looking for more goals to seal the precious title.
The club’s continuous attempts proved fruitful in the 64th minute, with the winger Adam Nafati breaking through Tetouan club defense to send a curled ball to the far end of the net.

AS FAR supporters went crazy with this second goal, with glorious chants echoing through the stands.
As the AS FAR breathlessly waited for the referee’s final whistle, midfielder Abdelilah Amimi scored the third goal to comfortably seal the victory for the veteran Rabat-based club.
Thousands of fans flocked to the stadium to watch the highly anticipated match, while many more held their breaths behind screens as they watched the match play out.
