Fez – Head coach of Morocco’s football team Vahid Halilhodzic has paid a visit to Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui in Amsterdam, presumably ending the months-long rift between the two.
Pictures of the meeting have been widely circulated online, as both Halilhodzic and Mazraoui appeared holding the Moroccan flag as they celebrated the much-needed reconciliation.
Mazraoui had earlier made hints at a potential comeback to Morocco’s Atlas Lions after a months-long rift with head coach Halilhodzic.
He deleted the social media post, in which he had announced that he wouldn’t represent Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the upcoming competitions due to the rift with the Franco- Bosnian coach.
Yet, as the Moroccan right-back deleted his post overnight, Moroccan football fans waited with bated breath for the player’s announcement of his much-needed return to the Moroccan squad ahead of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
In recent months, both Moroccan fans and critics have repeatedly called for an immediate return of the two Dutch-Moroccan red-listed players to the Moroccan squad, urging Halilihodzic to bury the hatchet and put Morocco’s interest above all other considerations.

Reacting to the public demand, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) vowed to put an end to the internal crisis and summon the expelled players back to the national team.
Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the FRMF, has repeatedly expressed unconditional support for the Bosnian coach amid the Moroccan fans’ calls for Halilhodzic to be sacked before the World Cup.
Lekjaa also reassured the public that he would mediate to put an end to the long-standing internal crisis between Halilhodzic and both Chelsea creative midfielder Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui.
Yet, while Mazraoui’s case looks to be solved, Ziyech’s issue may seem to be far from resolved anytime soon as the player has repeatedly stated that he has retired from international football.
