Rabat – American comedian and television host Ellen DeGeneres is enjoying her vacation in Marrakech, alongside her wife Portia de Rossi, after the end of the 19th season of her talk show “The Ellen Show.”

The couple was spotted at a restaurant in Marrakech and walking hand-in-hand through the streets of the Medina in the Moroccan red city, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

After 19 years and more than 3,000 episodes, Degeneres’ talk show came to an end last Thursday, with the last episodes loaded with emotional and tearful goodbyes.

For many years, DeGeneres has been a beloved celebrity due to her friendly and funny demeanor and has built for herself an empire in the TV industry. But recent accusations by guests and crew members of having a hostile work environment have sabotaged her reputation.

In 2020, Youtuber Nikkie de Jager was one of the first people to call out DeGeneres, criticizing her inconsiderate behavior and toxic work environment. Many others took to Twitter to recount their negative experiences with the host show.

Thanks to its varied and famed landscapes, culture, history, and cuisine, Morocco maintains its position as a popular destination among tourists from all over the world, including celebrities.

Another factor that puts Morocco in a favorable spot among tourists is its safety. In its latest report published in March, the Global Terrorism Index ranked Morocco among the safest countries in the world.

As the country recovers from the COVID-induced disruptions, the Moroccan government has in recent weeks implemented a set of measures to revive the country’s hospitality sector and promote Morocco as a tourist destination in international markets.

Earlier this month, Morocco’s National Tourism Office launched a three-day tour to Paris, London, and New York, to help recover the tourism industry after the setbacks it has witnessed in the past two years.

At the end of March 2022, Morocco’s tourism revenues increased by 80% in comparison to the same period last year, reaching MAD 9.7 billion (nearly $1 billion).
