Eid Al Adha 2022 in Morocco Expected on July 10

Rabat – Based on his astronomical forecast, the famously reliable Moroccan Hicham El Aissaoui has announced that Eid Al Adha or the feast of sacrifice is likely to fall on July 10 in Morocco.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs is yet to confirm the date following the sighting of the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah, the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar.

El Aissaoui is one of the astronomers whose calculations for religious events were proven right following the official crescent moon sighting.

Earlier this year, he predicted that the holy month of Ramadan would start on April 3. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs later confirmed the same date following the crescent moon sighting. He also predicted the correct date for Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan on May 2.

Eid Al Adha is among the holiest events in Islam.

The feast commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, Ismail, reflecting his obedience to God’s command.

God then intervened to provide Ibrahim with a lamb to sacrifice instead, according to Islamic texts.

During Eid Al Adha, Muslims perform Eid prayers in the morning before the feast. Following prayers and the slaughter of the livestock, families in Morocco celebrate Eid Al Adha by preparing delicious dishes.

A typical first day of Eid Al Adha includes different menus, such as “douara” also known as “tkelia” or “chkamba” or the sheep tripe.

The special dish might sound awkward for people who have never tasted it but it is extremely delicious and remains a key dish during the first day of Eid Al Adha in Morocco.

On the first day of Eid Al Adha, Moroccans also serve barbecued liver covered with sheep fats or grilled lamb’s liver known as “boulfaf” during lunchtime.

At night, some Moroccan families enjoy couscous with fresh meat. The majority of Moroccans leave the meat until the next day for the best cooking quality, as many believe that the meat of a freshly slain animal could be hard to cook on the first day.

Morocco has already launched the operation to identify livestock eligible for consumption during Eid Al Adha.

Morocco’s Food Safety Office (ONSSA) identifies healthy livestock for Eid Al Adha by putting a yellow tag on one of their ears.
The tag includes the inscription “Eid Al Adha” and a serial number unique to each Eid Al Adha livestock.
