Rabat – After nearly a year of filming in Morocco and other countries, Amazon Prime Video has announced the production wrap of the second season of The Wheel of Time series.

The streamer posted on Twitter a short video clip featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the forthcoming season, including cast and crew at a table read, set designs, and stunt work. “That’s a wrap for season 2,” the caption said.

The series is based on Robert Jordan’s fantasy novel series, also called “The Wheel of Time.” All eight episodes of the first season are available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The series tells the story of a fantasy world “where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers,” reads the synopsis.

The series features a prominent cast and crew, including the Academy Award-nominated British actress Rosamund Pike who is best known for her role in the movie “Gone Girl.”

Over the past decades, Morocco has become home to major Hollywood films and International TV series productions, especially the cities of Ouarzazate and Essaouira.

“Morocco offers a solution to the Hollywood studios who want to shoot films that are set in the Middle East, but in an environment which would seem to them much safer,” said William Higbee, a professor of Film Studies at the University of Exeter.

Many scenes from the popular series “Game of Thrones” were shot in Essaouira and the Ait Benhaddou village near Ouarzazate. The ancient vibes of these Moroccan cities created the perfect cinematography for the HBO fantasy series.

“House of the Dragon” is another HBO series that chose Morocco as its shooting location for many of its scenes. The series, which is a prequel to Games of Thrones, will premiere on August 21, 2022.

Known as the “Moroccan Hollywood,” Ouarzazate served as a backdrop for prominent movies such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and Kingdom of Heaven.
