Rabat – Abdellatif Hammouchi, the head of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the National Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), has paid tribute to all the two bodies’ personnel for their commitment to ensuring Morocco’s safety and security.
Hammouchi issued a lengthy “thank you” speech to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the DGSN.
May 16 does not only mark the commemoration of the establishment of the DGSN, but it is also an “annual feast to evoke the sacrifices” from the unit’s personnel, Hammouchi emphasized.
He said, “It [May 16] also constitutes a regular stop to celebrate security achievements and to foresee projects planned to serve security challenges.”
The DGSN-DGST chief also recalled the tireless efforts of his staff amid COVID-19 and the state of emergency that has been running since March 2020, applauding the involvement of officers and their contribution to Morocco’s effective response to the COVID crisis.
“This annual renewed appointment constitutes a periodic occasion, to take an objective stand with oneself, to evaluate the achievements made to serve the homeland security and citizens and to anticipate the desired projects,” Hammouchi stressed, vowing to continue strengthening crime prevention mechanisms and emergency policies to counter all forms of crimes.
He further noted that the DGSN-DGST structure is in line with Morocco’s digitalization reforms, recalling the new-generation IDs Morocco adopted recently with features aimed at fighting against fraud and identity theft.
The state-of-the IDs are one of the pillars of Morocco’s vision for the digital transition, Hammouchi argued, adding that DGSN’s main ambition is to boost its infrastructures and projects to strengthen its units’ ability to meet emerging security challenges and threats.
One such much-welcomed and state-of-the-art defense infrastructure opened in May 2021.
The project is a new 8,600 square meters national scientific and technical police laboratory. The six-floor building has been equipped with advanced technologies to accompany DGST-DGSN agents in their fight against terrorism, violent activism, and organized crime networks of all stripes.
