Fez – Italian giants AS Roma are interested in signing Morocco’s Wydad AC defender Achraf Dari, according to converging reports.
The local daily newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribiya wrote that the Italian club had offered to pay €2 million to convince the Moroccan defender to join their forces in the upcoming transfer window.
Dari has been in outstanding form in recent weeks, delivering world-class performances with Wydad AC in both the Moroccan league and the CAF Champions League.
The Moroccan defender put on a great display in the African Champions League against Egypt’s Al Ahly, standing in the Egyptians’ way to cut through Wydad AC defenses and threaten the Moroccan goalkeeper, Reda Tagnaouti.
Dari’s performance throughout the African competition was lauded by the African Football Confederation (CAF), which shared a two-minute-long video on its social media platforms highlighting the player’s spectacular form this season.
Dari is known for his dominant aerial presence, ability to read the game, and sharp recovery of the ball – three hugely required qualities for modern-day football defenders.
The Wydad defender’s qualities caught the Italian clubs’ attention, which had closely monitored the player’s performance in the CAF Champions League final held on May 30 in Casablanca, Morocco.
According to renowned African football journalist and transfer expert Micky Jnr, the 23-year-old Moroccan defender was watched by scouts from AS Roma in the African Champions League final.
Micky added that the Italian club’s head coach Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of the Moroccan defender and believes he would be an asset in the As Roma squad’s backline.
In addition to the Italian club, Dari had caught the interests of top clubs in Europe, especially in France’s Ligue 1.
The French club Bordeaux had been closely watching the Moroccan center-back during the past two seasons, with the club getting much closer to sealing a deal with Wydad AC during last summer’s transfer window.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Moroccan defender will secure a move to the Italian giants or if it is only just rumored news.
