Ifrane – Morocco and Nigeria consider their relationship to be “very productive,” symbolized by their important regional mega projects.
Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, met with his Nigerian counterpart, Geoffrey Onyeama, on June 8 in Rabat, to evaluate the “very productive” Nigeria-Morocco bilateral cooperation.
This meeting, held on the margins of the first Ministerial Meeting of the African Atlantic States, was an opportunity to highlight the two countries’ unique partnership.
Following their talks, Bourita highlighted to the press that the Nigeria-ECOWAS gas pipeline project, which reaches Morocco and beyond, is an example of much-needed regional integration that could transform the landscape of Atlantic Africa.
“It is a project that is moving forward, which will be a model of regional integration and will change the face of the Atlantic and this Atlantic Africa,” the Moroccan top diplomat said.
Bourita also mentioned the construction of a vast Moroccan-Nigerian fertilizer plant in Nigeria as one of the other structural and strategic projects.
He emphasized that these two key projects are the result of the boost given to bilateral ties by King Mohammed VI and President Muhammadu Buhari.
For his part, Nigeria‘s foreign minister stated that his nation is very pleased with this connection, which has resulted in various initiatives within the scope of the Nigeria-Morocco partnership.
Given the two countries’ gigantic projects and bilateral investments, notably the construction of the fertilizer factory and the upcoming Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline, Onyeama believes that the two countries’ relations are on the right path.
Satisfied with the outcome of this meeting, the Nigerian chief diplomat tweeted yesterday about his discussions with his Moroccan counterpart, which covered numerous areas of collaboration between the two nations.
“Met with Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Foreign Minister, and reviewed the very productive Nigeria-Morocco bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture and energy, among others,” Onyeama said in his tweet.
