Rabat – Morocco’s Royal Football Federation (FRMF) has reassured supporters about the readiness of the Atlas Lions ahead of the start of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
In a press release issued today, the federation said that the vast majority of players are continuing their preparations as planned, with the squad maintaining an availability level that meets expectations.
The statement comes amid concerns over last-minute changes to the team following the withdrawal of Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Nayef Aguerd from the final squad.
Ezzalzouli was ruled out after suffering a serious knee injury that will prevent him from participating in the tournament, while Aguerd announced that although he has recovered from injury, he does not yet feel physically ready to perform at the level required to help the national team during the World Cup.
FRMF’s statement also included an update from the medical staff on the condition of the two players, stating that Ezzalzouli is suffering from a sprain to his right knee in addition to a high-grade injury to the medial collateral ligament.
“This injury will prevent him from participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” FRMF confirms.
For Aguerd, the medical treatment and recovery process before the start of the competition continues to progress satisfactorily.
FRMF confirmed Aguerd’s remarks, stating that there were improvements in recent weeks.
“However, despite this positive development, the time required for a full recovery and a return to top-level competition means that he will not be able to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup under optimal conditions,” FRMF added.
FRMF also confirmed Amine Sbai and Marwane Saadane’s entrance to the final squad, with both players taking part in the preparation camp.
The federation emphasized that Ezzalzouli and Aguerd will continue to support their team during their journey in the World Cup, wishing them the best recovery.
