Rabat – Skytrax released their 2022 airport rankings, compiling the world’s best 100 airports based on votes from air travelers throughout the year, with no Moroccan airports making the ranking.

In the top spot, and retaining its spot from last year, was Qatar’s Hamad International Airport, lauded for its convenience and abundance of vendors and amenities.

Following closely in the second and third place were Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport.

While they did not make it into the global ranking, Morocco’s Mohammed V and Marrakech-Menara airports were both ranked among Africa’s best last year by Skytrax.

The airports were especially commended for high sanitation and hygiene standards, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Skytrax surveys take into account factors such as the airport’s check-in experience, the availability of vendors and amenities, security, among others.

Morocco is also currently in the process of expanding some of its international airports, with one of the most notable projects being the expansion of the Dakhla airport, which is expected to triple its area to accommodate 1 million passengers each year.

Meanwhile, the country recently secured a loan to finance its expansion of the Rabat-Sale International airport, which will cost upwards of $189 million.

Morocco’s flag-carrier airline, Royal Air Maroc, ranked 81st in the world’s top 100 ranking by Skytrax last year, climbing 11 places.

Based on its airport, crew service, and onboard products, the Moroccan airline was classified as a 4-star carrier by the consultancy firm.
