Rabat – After wrapping up production in South Wales, the Netflix series “The Witcher” will head to Erfoud, Morocco this week to shoot scenes for its upcoming season 3, the Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence reported on July 2.
Erfoud is an oasis town in Morocco’s Sahara desert. Known as the “Gate of the Sahara Desert,” the town is a popular tourist destination and filming location thanks to its scenic sand dunes.
“The country [Morocco] is a first for The Witcher, but in the past, it has accommodated such productions as Star Wars, James Bond, [and] Game of Thrones,” said the fansite.
Several cinema producers and Hollywood film directors have chosen Morocco as a shooting location, especially the cities of Ouarzazate and Essaouira.
Morocco is known for its varied sceneries and landscapes, from deserts, mountains, and beaches, making it an attractive shooting destination.
Several scenes from the well-known HBO series “Games of Thrones” were filmed in Morocco’s Essaouira and Ait Benhaddou village near Ouarzazate. The mystic and ancient vibes of the two cities made for the perfect cinematography for the fantasy drama.
According to the The Witcher fansite, the Netflix drama most likely chose “Moroccan scenery” to film scenes of the Korath Desert, also known as the Frying Pan in the series.

The Witcher is based on a series of fantasy novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. It tells the story of the witcher Geralt who travels across the land fighting monsters in a world where “people often prove more wicked than beasts,” according to Netflix’s official synopsis.
The series features a prominent cast and crew, including Hollywood star Henry Cavill, who starred in Mission Impossible and Superman.
Debuted in late 2019, The Witcher 1 was a huge success on Netflix, ranking second on the streaming service’s Top 10 English TV Shows list, with nearly 50 million hours of screen time.
