Laayoune – Morocco this week won three gold medals at the 7th iCAN International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada.
Morocco’s School of Engineering Sciences (EMSI) represented the country in the 2022 iCAN contest, which ran from August 23 to 29 in Toronto.
The first gold went to “SIPROM,” which is a marine prospecting system that can gather and transmit nautical, meteorological, and ecological data in real time.
During the event, SIPROM also won the highly regarded Canadian Special Award of Excellence.
The second Moroccan invention to win the gold medal was “DONATE,” an embedded smart solution that successfully makes and collects donations easily.
In addition, the “UV-C Intelligence System” secured the third gold medal for Morocco. This invention enables regular protection against viruses, bacteria, or other threats, regardless of their exposure points including surfaces like water, air, or other environments.

iCAN is an internationally renowned event that is annually held in Canada for inventors to showcase their “smart innovations and solutions.”
It is organized by the Toronto International Innovation and Advanced Skills Association (TISIAS), in collaboration with the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), the World Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA) and the Collaborative Innovation Initiative (ICO).
Since its launch in 2016, iCAN has continued to attract more nations and partnering organizations participating in the contest every year.
This year’s iCAN saw participation from 81 countries with over 700 inventions and smart innovations competing for the prizes.
Morocco has previously won three iCAN medals. The North African country won two gold medals in 2019 for the Smart Factory 4.0 and Smart Traffic inventions, as well as a gold medal in 2020 for producing an environmentally-friendly engine.
