Ryanair Plans To Increase Seats To Morocco This Winter

In response to British Airways’ recent announcement about canceling 10,000 flights of its winter schedule, Ryanair said on Tuesday that it will be adding over one million low-fare seats to its flights linking Morocco, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and France to 20 UK airports for the upcoming winter season.

While British Airways canceled 8% of its winter schedule due to staff shortage and Heathrow airport capacity restrictions, Ryanair is providing its “largest ever UK winter schedule,” according to Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair.

“UK families can book with confidence that they will get to their low-fare city break and winter sun getaways without the risk of flight cancellations and avoiding “Hopeless Heathrow” as well,” O’Leary said in a press release.

As the low-cost carrier continues to offer £29.99 (MAD 372.91) flights, it plans to increase its annual traffic from 165 million to 166.5 million passengers.

In June, Ryanair announced its 2022-2023 winter program connecting Morocco’s Agadir, Tangier, Rabat, and Fez to Italy’s Ciampino, France’s Clermont-Ferrand, and Toulouse, as well as Spain’s Alicante. The new program brings Ryanair’s total number of connections to and from Morocco to 137 for the upcoming winter season.

Given the global popularity of Moroccan tourist hubs such as Agadir and Marrakech, the Moroccan aviation market provides growth opportunities for low-cost carriers like Ryanair.

This summer, Ryanair connected Agadir’s Al-Massira airport to 28 destinations including 10 European countries and 19 new routes.

Some of the flights have connected the southern Moroccan city to Italy’s Bologna and Naples, France’s Bordeaux, Paris Beauvais, and Marseille, as well as the UK’s London Stansted and Manchester, and Austria’s Vienna. These offers remain open until October 2022, with ticket prices starting from MAD 209.59 (€19.99).

In March, the Irish low-cost airline named Agadir among the “Top Moroccan Hotspots for Summer22” alongside Essaouira, Marrakech, and Tangier.
