Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communications Mehdi Bensaid signed an agreement on Monday with Fouzi Lekjaa, President of The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), to organize a national youth indoor football tournament.
The agreement was signed in the Mohammed VI Football Complex, with the tournament being held under the title of “Road to the World Cup.”
The league will aim to celebrate and show support for the Moroccan men’s team’s participation in the 2022 Qatar World cup, as well as their female counterpart’s participation in the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
A nation-wide league will be organized for each gender, with one team being crowned in each category. The winning men’s team will travel to Doha later this year to support Morocco’s national squad, while the women’s team will travel to Australia and New Zealand in 2023 to cheer for the Lionesses.
Participation will be open to all players between the ages of 18 and 26, whether they come from urban and rural areas.
Teams will be comprised of 6 main players, 3 reserve players, as well as one coach and one manager.
Earlier this year, FIFA chose Morocco to host youth and amateur football workshops, strengthening the country’s credentials in terms of the development of the sport among the youth.
Marrakech and Asfi were also chosen earlier this year to host humanitarian football camps for the youth, organized by the Global Foundation for Peace through Soccer, a US-based non-profit organization.
