Rabat – Israel’s Foreign Ministry has recalled the head of the Israeli Liason Office in Rabat, David Govrin, amid allegations of “irregularities” and sexual misconduct and other workplace “irregularities.”
The spokesperson of the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry announced the decision today, according to converging news reports from Israeli media outlets.
News of the launching of an investigation into the “irregularities” reported to have taken place at Israel’s Liaison Office in Rabat first emerged yesterday, and converging reports indicated that the Israeli Foreign Ministry had sent a special team to look into the allegations.
According to Israeli sources, the delegation tasked with conducting the inquiry is led by Hagay Behar, Inspector General at Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
The allegations of “irregularities” included the exploitation and harassment of Moroccan women working at the Rabat Liaison Office, conflict of interests, as well as mismanaged workplace disputes.
Some of these allegations are reported to directly involve the head of David Gorvin, the head of the Liaison Office. The Jerusalem Post reported yesterday that the senior Isreali diplomat is alleged to be involved in an ongoing dispute with the officer in charge of security at the Rabat Liaison Office.
In addition to sexual misconduct allegations, the “special delegation” the Israeli Froeing Ministry recently sent to Rabat is equally set to investigate the case of an official gift from the Moroccan Royal Family to Israel that was not properly reported to the Foreign Ministry and remains unaccounted for.
According to the Israeli media, the gift notably consisted of a gift card the Liaison Office received from the Moroccan Royal Family on the occasion of the Israeli Independence Day.
The investigation may also implicate other top Israeli government officials, as reports indicate that the Israeli Rabat Liaison Office was hosting a number of ministerial meetings that were organized by a businessman close to Gorvin, Sami Cohen, who does not hold any official position within the Israeli government.
The meetings were held in the presence of former Israeli foreign minister, and current prime minister, Yair Lapid, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked, and Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar, according to a report from i24NEWS.
When asked about the ongoing investigation, the Israeli Foreign Ministry told i24NEWS that “The issue is known about and is being dealt with.”
Morocco World News reached out to the Rabat Liason Office for comment. They responded that the investigation is ongoing and they cannot provide any further details on the matter for the time being.
