Rabat – Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has sent a letter of congratulations to King Charles III, who assumed the throne of the United Kingdom on Saturday.
The Moroccan king expressed “warmest congratulations” on behalf of the Moroccan people, and wished the newly proclaimed British king a prosperous reign over Britain.
King Mohammed VI called “the strong relations of friendship and cooperation” between Morocco and the UK a “big source of pride” for the Kingdom of Morocco, and added that the two countries will continue to improve relations in various fields.
“I also cannot forget to express to Your Majesty my deepest pride in the strong bonds of friendship and mutual appreciation that bind us personally and our two royal families,” the Moroccan monarch’s statement also said.
He concluded by reiterating congratulations and well-wishes for the new British monarch and the royal family.
King Charles III was formally proclaimed the UK’s new monarch on Saturday, in a historic ceremony that was televised from St James’s Palace.
The new king vowed to serve his country, having succeeded Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest serving monarch.
Charles’s wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, is now Queen Consort of the UK, while his eldest son, William, is the heir apparent.
King Mohammed VI had sent his British counterpart a letter of condolences following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth, expressing that Rabat had lost “a special great friend who was deeply respected.”
The queen died in her Scottish property in Balmoral on Thursday. Her coffin left her Balmoral residence on Sunday, and her funeral is set to take place on Monday, September 19.
