Rabat – King Mohammed VI has offered his condolences to King Charles III on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The royal cabinet of Morocco conveyed the Moroccan King’s heartfelt condolences to the British royal family, saying that the monarch “learned about the queen’s death with “deep sadness.”

“Under the reign of this exceptional monarch, the United Kingdom has achieved much progress and prosperity and acquired great stature both regionally and internationally,” the monarch said, stressing  that Rabat has lost a “special great friend who  was deeply respected.”

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday after health complications. The announcement of the passing of the longest-reigning monarch in British history came a few hours after a Buckingham Palace statement said that the queen’s doctors were concerned about her health.

Many people gathered outside Buckingham Palace amid concerns about the queen’s health.
Born in 1926, the queen ruled longer than any other member of the royal family in the UK’s history.

The queen became the first in line to the throne after her father King  George VI became monarch in 1936, following the abdication of his brother.

When the king died after suffering a long illness in 1952, Elizabeth II immediately acceded to the throne.
Queen Elizabeth was the mother of four and grandmother to eight grandchildren. She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren.
