Rabat – Motherson Group, a leading Indian manufacturer of components in the automotive sector, opened a new site in Tanger Med industrial platform on Thursday.
The new plant is part of Motherson’s Modules and Polymer Products division and is set to produce interior modules and components, including instrument panels and door panels, for passenger and light commercial vehicles.
The 15,000 m2 facility will replace the company’s existing factory in Tetouan that was established in 2010.
The Tanger plant is double the size of the Tetouan facility and is set to focus on plastic injection molding, plastic welding, and airbag integration solutions.
As Motherson Group expands its operations to the Tanger Med industrial platform, the Indian company expects to employ 300 people during peak production and reinforce its footprint in Morocco, Europe, and the Middle East.
“Morocco is a very strategic location for Motherson due its proximity to Europe and the Middle East,” Motherson Group Chairman Vivek Chaand Sehgal said. “This new facility will help us in serving our existing as well as new customers better in these regions.”
In addition to consolidating its client portfolio, Motherson expressed its commitment to support the Moroccan automotive sector.
“We highly appreciate the continuous support of the Moroccan government and Tanger Med teams to accelerate investment in Tangier,” Sehgal said.
The executive added that his company is “committed” in their efforts to back the automotive sector in the region and allow it “to reach its full potential.”
