Rabat – The UAE and Morocco have reiterated their determination to strengthen bilateral military cooperation.
Representatives of the two countries expressed their determination during the visit to Morocco of UAE Major General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, chief of staff of the UAE Armed Forces.
The UAE official, who is on a visit from October 18-19, met with senior military officials in Morocco, including Abdellatif Loudiyi, minister delegate for the National Defense Administration.
During the meeting, the two officials recalled the “deep and historical ties” between the two countries, particularly in terms of defense and the exchange of expertise, Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) said in a press release.
The UAE Army Chief of Staff also met with the Lieutenant General, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Province General Belkhir El Farouk, with whom he discussed cooperation between the two countries’ armies.
“The two officials also welcomed the level of this cooperation, while reiterating their desire to strengthen it even more in accordance with the supreme will of the leaders of the two brotherly countries,” the FAR statement said.
Thani Al Rumaithi’s visit came following a working trip from Staff Major General pilot Faris Khalaf al Mazrouei of Abu Dhabi to Morocco earlier this month.
During the visit, A Mazrouei met with Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of Morocco’s General Directorates of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST) to review the existing cooperation between the two countries.
The security officials similarly vowed his determination to improve cooperation in different fields, including training services and joint efforts to combat terrorism threats.
The two countries cooperate in different other fields, including political dialogue, diplomacy, and trade.
Trade between Morocco and the UAE has reached over $800 million in 2021.
