Fez – A partnership agreement was signed on Tuesday in Casablanca between the Casablanca-Settat Regional Tourism Council (CRT) and the Grand Casablanca Runners Association (ACGC) to support the development of sports tourism across the region.
The agreement builds on the growing success of the Casablanca International Marathon, which organizers and tourism officials see as a strategic platform for attracting visitors and promoting the city on the international stage.
Under the partnership, the two sides will work together on communication and promotional initiatives surrounding the marathon.
Tourism professionals will also be mobilized to create tailored offers for runners, their companions, and both domestic and international visitors attending the event.
The initiative aims to elevate the Casablanca International Marathon to the level of major global sporting events while strengthening the city’s attractiveness as a destination for tourism and sports.
Officials believe the event can serve as an important driver of economic activity by generating demand for hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and other tourism-related businesses.
The agreement also seeks to encourage closer cooperation between stakeholders from the tourism sector, the sports community, and private companies.Â
This collaborative approach is expected to support regional economic growth while enhancing Casablanca’s image as a dynamic and modern destination.
For the Regional Tourism Council, major sporting events are increasingly viewed as strategic tools for territorial promotion, particularly as Morocco prepares to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The council sees sports tourism as a growing segment capable of attracting new visitors and extending the city’s tourism offering beyond traditional business travel.
Meanwhile, the Grand Casablanca Runners Association aims to establish the marathon as a flagship annual event and a permanent fixture on Casablanca’s calendar of major international gatherings.
While cities around the world increasingly use sporting events to attract visitors and investment, Casablanca is looking to position its marathon as both a tourism asset and an economic opportunity for the region.
