Rabat – The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has spotlighted five players from Morocco’s National Team who “could help Morocco achieve the unexpected and reach the Round of 16” in the upcoming Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Titled “Morocco: Five Players to Watch,” the list features goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, Romain Saiss, Achraf Hakimi, Sofyan Amrabat, and Sofiane Boufal, with FIFA highlighting the “talent and experience” of each of the five players.
FIFA noted the great performance of Moroccan international and Sevilla FC goalkeeper Bounou, who is “the current holder of the Zamora Trophy, bestowed on the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio in the Spanish top flight.”
Last March, Bounou became the first Moroccan and Arab to win the Zamora Trophy for the best goalkeeper in LaLiga, Spain’s top football division.
Describing Saiss as an “instrumental figure” for the national team, FIFA said that the Moroccan player’s biggest strengths are his “anticipation and efficiency in individual duels.” In addition, the report emphasized the “great leadership and gritty determination” that the Atlas Lions captain brings to the table.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain star Hakimi “possesses impressive international pedigree that belies his youth,” the source noted, highlighting the “immense talent” the Moroccan international is blessed with.
“The Moroccan fans are right to expect big things from the jet-heeled defender [Hakimi] when the action gets underway in Qatar,” the article added.

In addition, FIFA shed light on Amrabat’s remarkable skills making him a “valuable player” within the national team, including his “ability to break up opposition attacks, shut off passing lines, and close down space make.”
FIFA concluded the list with Soufiane Boufal, who has “cemented” his reputation as a “key figure for Morocco.” The report described the Moroccan left-winger as a “real team player and is always willing to put in a shift in for his team-mates.”
The much-anticipated World Cup will take place in Qatar between November 20 and December 18, with Morocco facing Croatia, Belgium, and Canada in Group F.
