Rabat – Marrakech’s Mohammed VI Museum of Water and Civilization will host a hackathon event from October 12 to 14, seeking to provide solutions related to water management..
The hackathon is being organized by the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region in partnership with The Marrakech Regional Investment Center, Emerging Business Factory, and Near Foundation.
Seeking solutions to water management related issues, the “Hackathon Water Show” is a first for Morocco, and is open to all entrepreneurs, start-ups, students, and universities.
Coming in the midst of a water crisis in the country, the initiative will discuss the necessary steps to respond to the global issue of water scarcity.
This event will cover many themes, mainly sustainable water management, water purification, and efficient irrigation systems, among others.
To participate, the candidates’ projects should address an existing water scarcity issue in an innovative way, and be technically and financially feasible.
The hackathon will see more than 70 participants, with 20 of whom will be selected to participate in a three-month incubation program with Emerging Business Factory.
Only 10 finalists will receive a grant amounting to MAD 500,000 ($45,000).
The initiative aims to increase motivation among innovators to think up solutions to the alarming water issues in Morocco.
Agricultural output in Morocco suffered a decrease in 2022, being affected by a severe decrease in rainfall. The country experienced its worst drought in three decades, even leading service providers in some regions to ration out drinking water.
