Rabat – Morocco’s Atlas Lions ranked as the 22nd best football team in the world in FIFA’s latest global football ranking, climbing up one place from the 23rd spot they occupied in August’s ranking.
With a global score of 1563.5, Morocco’s national football team also maintained its position as the second-best squad in Africa.
The Atlas Lions’ latest friendly matches against Chile and Paraguay in September contributed to the team’s global ranking improvement.
The team won the friendly match with Chile with a 2-0 score but finished the match with Paraguay with a 0-0 draw, in the first showings under the management of Walid Regragui.
Fans expressed satisfaction with the improved performances during the matches, but observed the need for more work, particularly as the Atlas Lions prepare to head to Qatar to take part in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November.
The World Cup draw put Morocco’s squad in Group F, alongside Belgium, Croatia, and Canada in April.
To cheer on the Atlas Lions during their World Cup matches, Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) partnered with the country’s Ministry of Education to mobilize special flights with affordable prices for fans.
Royal Air Maroc will mobilize flights with a total capacity of 3,000 seats at subsidized prices of MAD 5000 ($458) for a roundtrip.
