Rabat – Kanye West debuted his latest fashion collection while wearing a T-shirt with the slogan ‘’White Lives Matter’’ at the Paris Fashion Week runway on Monday. Flanked by controversial racism-denier Candace Owens, West’s latest scandal appears to be another attempt to regain the artist’s withering celebrity.
His actions quickly triggered public uproar, with accusations of the artist appropriating the Black Lives Matter slogan, which seeks to highlight racism, discrimination, and racial inequality faced by black people.
Kayne West responded to criticism for wearing a ‘’White Lives Matter’’ shirt by declaring, ‘’everyone knows that Black Lives Matter was a scam, now it’s over, you’re welcome,’’ in an Instagram story, which he quickly deleted.
His statement, however, rapidly sparked widespread outrage on social media platforms. Twitter users criticized the American rapper’s statement as “insensitive’’ and “disgusting,’’ saying that it dismissed a social movement.
Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, a contributing editor at Vogue, criticized Kanye on Instagram, saying, ‘’The T-shirts Kanye conceived, produced, and shared with the world are pure violence,’’ adding, ‘’there is no excuse, there is no art here.’’
While his announcement undoubtedly enraged some social media users, others applauded his action. Australian-born American conservative political commentator and author Nick Adams tweeted, ‘’We need more rappers who are willing to speak the truth about the hatred being spread towards white people in the west.’’
The American rapper is known for stirring controversy; he previously lost 9 million Twitter followers after tweeting in support of Trump and claiming that slavery was a ’’choice.’’
