Rabat – With only a few days until the Atlas Lions’ game against Croatia, former Moroccan national football team head coach Vahid Halilhodzic expressed regret for not leading the team against Croatia and shared game winning strategies.
Expressing his regret for not leading Morocco against Croatia, Halilhodzic said, “Of course, I’m disappointed that I won’t be leading Morocco against Croatia; I had been waiting for that match for months and had already begun preparing for it.”
“I know a lot of things, but I should definitely brush up on the details. I had some ideas for that game, and I was optimistic, despite the fact that Croatia is a heavy favorite,” he added.
The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) cited “differences and divergent visions” regarding the Qatar 2022 World Cup preparations when they parted ways in August.
Many angry fans demanded Halilhodzic’s dismissal, blaming the Bosnian coach for the Atlas Lions’ poor performance. He also had feuds with a number of key players, including Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui, leading to their absence from the Moroccan squad.
“Everything that has happened to me is difficult for me to accept as a human being,” Halilhodzic said in an interview with net.hr. “That’s why I won’t say anything else about it.”
He continued, “It’s difficult for anyone to comprehend, such a reality is difficult to comprehend and accept, but I have no choice.”
Halilhodzic highlighted that anything is possible in a single World Cup match. He stressed that having a plan and believing in one’s abilities are essential for success.
He added that being brave, talented, and knowing what you want are equally important.
After Halilhodzic’s dismissal, many Moroccan footballers made their comeback for the 2022 FIFA World Cup including right-back Noussair Mazraoui.

Mazraoui was excluded from playing for the team for over a year due to his dispute with Halilhodzic. However, he will now be part of Morocco’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Morocco will be participating in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as one of four Arab teams that have qualified for the competition.
The World Cup draw put Morocco in Group F along with Belgium, Croatia, and Canada. The national team’s first game will be against Croatia on November 23, followed by a match against Belgium on November 27, and a third game against Canada.
