Rabat – Sales of new cars have witnessed a decrease of 6.9% in the past 10 months compared to the same period last year in Morocco.
Data from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AVIAM) said that sales of new cars reached 134,001 units by the end of October.
The number of passenger vehicle registrations reached 118,990 units in the first 10 months, representing a decrease of 5.7%. Commercial vehicle registry, amounted to 15,001 units, a drop of -15.56%.
Dacia is still topping the list of sold cars, with a market share of 27.3% (32,484 units), followed by Renault at 14.8% (17,673 units) and Hyundai with a market share of nearly 10% (11,808 units).
In terms of light commercial vehicle sales, Renault leads the list with 3,776 units sold and a market share of over 25%.
DFSK comes in second with 2,183 vehicles sold, followed by Ford with 1,687 units.
Audi’s sales increased by 2.5% with a total of 3,185 cars, and a market share of 2.7%. Next on the list was BMW with a market share of almost 2%, and then Mercedes, with a market share of 1.7%.
Porsche sold 274 units, representing an increase of 15.3%. Meanwhile, Jaguar’s sales fell 4.9% to 116 cars sold.
Compared to car sales, the volume of Morocco’s automotive exports increased by nearly 35% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in September 2021.
The volume of Morocco’s automotive exports reached MAD 77.7 billion ($7.11 billion), statistics from Morocco’s exchange office showed.
The automotive sector is one of the key contributors to Morocco’s economy. The industry created over 200,000 jobs in 2021 in the North African country.
