Rabat – Morocco’s captain Romain Saiss is set to star in a Netflix behind-the-scenes documentary for the 2022 World Cup titled “Captains,” media reports indicated.

The fly-on-the-wall series will star Saiss, as well as Welsh and Brazilian captains Gareth Bale and Thiago Silva, and is being made by the producers of Sunderland ‘Till I Die, another successful Netflix football documentary.

While the Wales national team exited the competition at the group stage, and Brazil suffered an early quarter-finals exit at the hands of Croatia, Morocco’s team exceeded expectations and made history by qualifying to the semi-finals.

Morocco’s historic performance gave the producers a gripping storyline to build the docuseries around, the Telegraph reported.

After a goalless draw with 2018 runners-up Croatia in their first game, Morocco managed to top its group after beating favorites Belgium 2-0 and Canada 2-1.

In the round of 16, the Atlas Lions held Spain to a 0-0 draw before winning the game in a 3-0 penalty shootout, where goalkeeper Yassine Bounou’s fine saves stole the limelight.

The team then beat Portugal 1-0, who were also favorites to progress far in the tournament, becoming the first African and Arab team to ever make it to the semi-finals.

Morocco’s magical run ended after a 2-0 defeat by France on Wednesday. Still, the team’s composed display against the French and its valiant efforts throughout the tournament continue to garner praise from football legends, celebrities, and political leaders alike.

Fly-on-the-wall style football documentaries have been experiencing a popularity surge in recent years, with Manchester City, Tottenham, and Arsenal all starring in Amazon’s “All or Nothing” series.

England’s captain Harry Kane and coach Gareth Southgate said they rejected the opportunity to appear in the series, arguing that they did not want any “distractions.”
