Rabat – Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and the German Development Bank (KfW) signed today three financing agreements for a total of €52.6 million.
With a budget of €28.5 million, the first agreement tackles a program to provide drinking water to small and medium-sized centers.
The program also aims to increase and strengthen the production of potable water, pumping, and transportation in several centers, including Al Qala’a, Al Atawia, Tamallat, and neighboring sites.
It further includes the establishment of a system of controlling the installation of drinking water supply projects remotely for the city of Marrakech from the Massira dam. Also covered in the program is the completion of projects for electrical connection and drinking water supply for the Atlantic coast
The second financing agreement includes a total budget of €21 million, and it seeks to provide drinking water to small and medium sewed centers.
The program also seeks the implementation of measures related to drinking water supply systems.
Some of the measures are aimed at increasing the production of drinking water as well as treatment and securing the supply of potable water to cover future needs.
The third financing agreement aims to provide financial assistance for measures falling within the framework of the drinking water supply program for small and medium-sized centers.
Head of ONEE Abderrahim El Hafidi signed the contract with Joerg Dux, the head of the Water Resources and Waste Management at KfW’s North Africa Division.
The agreement comes less than a week after the signing of a loan and subsidy contract between KfW and Morocco.
Last week on Thursday, Morocco and the German bank signed a $34.3 million loan agreement to implement sanitation programs in several centers at the level of rural municipalities across Morocco.
