Rabat – Moroccan International and PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi has talked with his teammate Kylian Mbappe to help convince Paris Saint-Germain to sign Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to converging news reports.
The relationship between Hakimi and Amrabat is “excellent,” the sports news site TMW reported on December 27, adding that the right-back also sought “the endorsement of Kylian Mbappe” in his bid to persuade the PSG leadership to secure the services of Amrabat.
Moroccan sports news outlet Al Mountakhab previously reported that PSG are willing to sign Amrabt for a fee of €25 million.
After reports emerged of PSG’s in Amrabat, his brother, professional footballer Nordin Amrabat, encouraged Sofyan to sign for the French club should they come knocking.
Sofyan would be a “perfect fit for PSG,” Nordin said in a recent interview with NOS.
“It is normal that Sofyan is the center of attention given how he is playing in this competition,” he said of his brother’s impressive World Cup showing. “To see him alongside Verratti would be a dream. I think Al Khelaifi [president of PSG] should act immediately if he reads my words.”
PSG is not the only elite club to have Amrabt on their wishlist. Several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Moroccan midfielder.
“I have been told that many clubs from the Premier League are observing him [Amrabat], especially Liverpool F.C (next to Bellingham & Caicedo),” Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg tweeted recently.
“No negotiations now but he is open to leave Fiorentina. Salary now around €3-4m. Price tag: More than €30m! Key player,” the tweet added.
Amrabt was consistently excellent during the 2022 World Cup, with his commanding presence in the midfield helping Morocco become the first Arab and African country to reach the semi-finals of the global tournament.
The sought-after midfielder currently plays for Serie A club Fiorentina and his contract is set to expire in June 2024.
