Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication announced on Sunday the launch of the “Niya Maghribiya” website, a virtual museum that features a collection of videos and pictures documenting the Moroccan national football team’s achievements at the Qatar World Cup.

The ministry indicated that the digital museum “aims to collect the largest number of photos and videos about the qualification of the national team” for the global tournament’s semi-finals, calling on Moroccans to participate and share their photos and videos on the platform.

“Set your intention and share your photos with us,” added the ministry. The name of the platform “Niya Maghribiya,” which means “Moroccan intention,” was inspired by a phrase that Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui repeated during the Atlas Lions’ participation at the World Cup.

“Dirou niya,” meaning “set your intention,” Regragui told Moroccan football fans throughout the global tournament. Niya is an Islamic concept whereby people are urged to believe in and commit to what they intend to accomplish through having faith and a strong belief that their goals will come to being.

“Niya is the key to victory,” Regragui said during a press conference in Qatar, explaining that having a collective positive energy and believing in oneself can help the national team achieve the impossible.

And in a law of attraction fashion, the Moroccan squad managed to achieve the unprecedented and make history on the global stage, becoming the first Arab and African nation to reach the semi-finals and beating some of the tournament’s favorites, including Spain and Portugal.

“Did you go out and celebrate with the national team? In Qatar or in your city? Dir niya [set your intention] and share with us photos and videos of your celebrations in the virtual museum,” the Moroccan ministry of culture said on Instagram.

Moroccans were quick to share photos and videos featuring their moments of joy and celebrations for the Atlas Lions’ World Cup heroics, including street celebrations and the historic welcome ceremony of the Moroccan team upon their return to Morocco.
