Rabat – The Administrative Court in London rejected today a pro-Polisario legal action filed by British NGO WSC against the Morocco-UK Association Agreement.
The lawsuit aimed to challenge Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Western Sahara region by attempting to convince the British court to re-examine the trade agreement between the two countries.
Morocco and the UK signed the Association Agreement in 2019 to ensure that the two countries maintain their relationships following Brexit.
The agreement also seeks to further strengthen the commercial relationship between the two countries, with both British and Moroccan officials saying they hope to see bilateral trade volumes surpass the current figures.
Commenting on the court’s verdict, a spokesperson for the UK Department for International Trade welcomed the ruling and said that his country “will continue to work” alongside Morocco to develop trade cooperation.
“We will continue to work closely with Morocco to maximize the £2.7 billion in trade between our countries,” Morocco’s news agency MAP quoted the spokesperson as saying.
The spokesperson emphasized h the UK and Morocco determination to continue exchanges through the agreement next year, noted MAP’s report.
The London court’s verdict reflects the strength and depth of the UK-Morocco diplomatic ties, with officials from both countries having regularly emphasized their determination to boost cooperation in different fields.
In a recent interview with Morocco World News, UK ambassador to Morocco Simon Martin said that the Rabat-London cooperation is on an upwards trajectory.
Martin explained: “There are plenty of other areas in which this is happening…We have a really important joint military exercise due to take place, involving both the army and air force.”
