Rabat – Rabat hosted on January 16-17 the first meeting of the Monitoring Committee for Moroccan Israeli Defense Cooperation.

A communique from the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR) said that the meeting is in accordance with “high instructions” from King Mohammed VI, the supreme chief and chief of General Staff of FAR.

Inspector General of FAR Lieutenant General Belkhir El Farouk chaired the meeting along with  Dror Shalom, Director of the Office of Politico-Military Affairs of the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

“The meeting examined the various fields of bilateral military cooperation, in particular logistics, training, as well as the acquisition and modernization of equipment,”  the FAR statement said.

The military officials stressed further the strengthening of military cooperation as well as their commitment to expanding it to include other areas such as intelligence, air defense, and electronic warfare.

The Morocco-Israeli military cooperation is “based on mutual trust and support,” the statement quoted El Farouk as saying.

Exchange of views and discussions also took place between Moroccan and Israeli officials, civilians, and soldiers.

Morocco and Israel have been vowing to boost cooperation in all fields, particularly security, since the two countries re-established diplomatic ties in December 2020.

The visit of the Israeli delegation to Morocco came following a high-level meeting with former Israel Army Chief Aviv Kochavi, who visited the North African kingdom in July 2022.

During the visit, the former Israeli Army chief stressed Morocco’s important contribution to regional peace and stability, stressing Israel’s determination to further advance collaboration in the military field.

On November 24, 2021, Morocco and Israel signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the defense field.

The agreement aimed at advancing cooperation between the two countries.

As part of cooperation in the military field, FAR acquired Israel’s Skylock Dome System in 2021. The Moroccan military also received five anti-drone defense systems from the same company as part of its approach to upgrade defensive power.
