Rabat – Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, paid a field visit today to the prefecture of Marrakech and Al Haouz province to oversee a number of cultural projects.
Bensaid inaugurated the Ait Ourir cultural center, a cultural landmark that includes a sizable performance hall and cultural spaces that offer the city’s residents access to cultural spaces.
The cultural center is part of the culture ministry’s plans to build cultural and youth facilities in Al Haouz Province.

During his visit, the minister went to an archaeological discovery exhibition in Aghmat, a small town at the foot of the High Atlas, 30 kilometers from Marrakech,
Bensaid was also given an update on the efforts being made to restore the Aghmat archaeological site and the construction of the Aghmat Heritage Center.
The minister also carried out a site inspection at the Saadian tombs, a place that is frequented by tourists and is regarded as one of Morocco’s most significant historical sites.

Bensaid has launched many initiatives to safeguard and promote Morocco’s cultural and historic heritage.
Earlier this month, he inaugurated an exhibition featuring the 110,000-year-old Atlas Lion fossil discovered in Essaouira.
The exhibition featured archaeological sites where the lion’s fossils were discovered, as well as archaeological documents and historical resources about Atlas Lions.
In January 2022, the culture minister visited a number of ongoing youth- and culture-related projects in the medina (old city) of Sale near Rabat.
During the visit, Bensaid highlighted the city’s historical significance, while emphasizing the importance of preserving its heritage as an important component of Moroccan national identity.
