Morocco’s ONMT Receives ‘Best Emerging Sustainable Destination’ Award in Madrid

Rabat – Spanish travel magazine Viajar has named Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) the “Best Emerging Sustainable Destination” for the  2022-2023 period, during an event held at the Royal Tapestry Factory Foundation in Madrid.

“Morocco is rewarded for its sustainability efforts by winning the title of ‘Best Emerging Sustainable Destination’ for 2022-2023,” announced ONMT today on its social media platforms.

ONMT’s Director General Adel El Fakir received the award from the Director of the Viajar magazine at the networking event, which saw the participation of several tourism operators from Morocco and elsewhere.

After collecting the prize, El Fakir said that he was “honored to receive this award, which recognizes the Kingdom of Morocco’s efforts in sustainable tourism.”

He added that “this recognition reinforces the influence of the Moroccan brand through the attributes of sustainability and responsibility, which travelers from around the world are aware of.”

The event, which saw the presence of more than 250 Iberian and Latin American tourism operators, was an opportunity to promote Morocco as a travel destination in the international market, Morocco’s news agency (MAP) reported.

As part of the Moroccan tourism office’s ambitions to promote the country’s tourism activities, the ONMT launched on November 2022 the second wave of its “Morocco the Land of Light” campaign.

The office indicated that the first wave of the campaign has achieved great results, saying that 60% of “international tourists” were exposed to the campaign in the target markets.

The campaign reached 74% and 80% of tourists in Spain and France respectively, added ONMT, noting that “96% of those who recognized the campaign demonstrated a clear intention to visit Morocco.”

The “Best Emerging Sustainable Destination” award marks the third edition recognition that the ONMT receives in Spain after it was awarded “the best international promotion campaign in Spain” and the “the best culinary destination” awards.
