Rabat – Moroccan security services have reassured citizens that the car that had been abandoned in a street in the city of Casablanca does not carry “any suspicious materials.”
Police in the Jaber Ibn Hayyan street in Casablanca intervened after spotting a neglected car abandoned by its owner in “suspicious circumstances.”
Videos have been widely shared online of many residents filming the moment when police intervened to investigate the car, using explosives detection equipment and trained police dogs.
“The car was subjected to a thorough examination by trained police dogs, and using explosives detection equipment,” said a statement from the Casablanca police, adding that investigators found that the car did not carry any suspicious materials or pose any threat to the safety of people and property.
Preliminary data from the investigation shows that, in addition to thoroughly examining the car, police successfully identified the owner of the abandoned vehicle. Police also located the suspect’s home, stressing that his family members revealed that he is receiving medical care due to a “mental illness.”
