Rabat – Italian football manager for Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti expressed his excitement on behalf of the Spanish team, saying the team is happy to be playing the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco.
Ancelotti made his comments during a press conference at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
“A World Club Cup is a very important event,” he began, stressing that the teams that have made it so far “have done well” to be playing in the competition, Spanish news El Pais reported.
He then highlighted his team’s excitement to be in Morocco to compete in the FIFA event. “We are so excited to be in a country [Morocco] where we have many fans,” he enthused, noting that this is an “opportunity” to make their fans happy and finish the sporting season off on a high.
Real Madrid is set to play Egyptian side Al Ahly on February 8 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat at 8 pm Moroccan time.
Ancelotti showed his respect towards their Egyptian opponents, “Al Ahly has a great history, one of the most important in the football world,” he said.
The football manager recalled Al Ahly’s many winning titles and their experience in major competitions, noting: “It’s going to be competitive and evenly matched.”
The Real Madrid manager also spoke of his team’s challenging month. “The demand is high,” he exclaimed, explaining that the Spanish team is working on evaluating their previous games and “are still growing.”
The announcement that Morocco would be hosting the event was made in December at the end of the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar.
The event began with a spectacular opening ceremony on February 1, which displayed Morocco’s cultural heritage and featured an array of Moroccan music at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier.
