Rabat – Moroccan kickboxer Jamal Ben Saddik was suspended by organizing company Glory for 15 months following a violation of anti-doping rules, after he delivered a positive doping test following his victory against Romanian Benjamin Adegbuyi in August of last year.
The kickboxing organization changed the result of the game between Ben Saddik and Adegbuyi to “no contest” and removed Ben Saddik from the international heavyweight ranking following the revelation.
Glory was not able to disclose which exact substance the Moroccan had been accused of using due to privacy regulations, Dutch news outlet NOS reported.
This is the second time that Ben Saddik has committed a doping violation. He failed a drug test prior to Glory 23: Las Vegas in 2015 and was fined and suspended for a year.
Jamal Ben Saddik is one of Glory’s highest-ranking heavyweights and is nicknamed “The Goliath,” owing to his 2-meter stature. He is the biggest active fighter on Glory’s roster.
The case marks the fourth doping incident in the kickboxing organization in a short period of time, NOS added.
Alistair Overeem is another example of a recent high-profile case. The Dutch kickboxer is currently awaiting his B-samples after testing positive for forbidden substances following his victory over Moroccan athlete Badr Hari.
In addition, Luis Tavares and Cihad Kepenek were also recently suspended after getting positive results on their tests.
