Rabat – The Moroccan cycling team won the 2023 Tour du Sahel recently held in Mauritania from February 1 to 5.
The national cycling team dominated the competition, which consisted of five stages and covered a distance of 476.5 kilometers.
Moroccan cyclist Achraf Doghmi took the winner’s yellow jersey home after his victory in the fifth and final stage of the competition.
Doghmi completed the 80-kilometer course in 1:52:19 ahead of other competitors Saber Lahcen, Al Hocaine Sabbahi, and Adel Arbaoui, and with a two-second lead over Youssef Bdadou.
With a score of 33:21:10, the Moroccan national team has taken the lead in the final overall classification, finishing ahead of Dutch team “Universe Cycling Team,” and the Algerian team.

The Moroccan trio Adel Arbaoui, Youssef Bdado, and Al Hocaine Sabbah dominated the competition’s first tour linking Berjeimatt to Akjoujt over a distance of 110 kilometers.
Moroccan cyclists also came out on top during the tour’s second stage, which covered 75 kilometers from Yaghref to Aoujeft.
Shining once again the Moroccan cyclists triumphed in the third stage, which covered 103 kilometers from northwestern Atar to the northern town of Choum.
The Moroccan cycling team is contributing to Morocco’s sporting success. In July 2022 the cycling team won the 2022 African Cycling Olympic Championship held in Abuja, Nigeria.
