Rabat – American club Seattle Sounders arrived in the Moroccan city of Tangier on Thursday ahead of their Club World Cup game against Al Ahly on February 4. Upon landing in Morocco, the club received a warm welcome and immense support from Moroccan football fans.
The official social media account of Seattle Sounders expressed the team’s gratitude to Moroccan fans for their hospitality, saying that they were “overwhelmed with the amount of love and support” the team has received since arriving in Tangier.
The club posted some of the heartwarming comments and tweets they have received from Moroccan social media users. “Welcome to your second home,” a Moroccan user said.
“Welcome to Morocco guys. You’re such amazing people and you deserve this warm welcome,” another Instagram user said, giving a great example of Moroccan unparalleled hospitality.

American fans also pointed out Moroccans’ unmatched hospitable and friendly nature. “The hospitality of the Moroccan people is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, so I knew that the Sounders were in for a very warm welcome,” an American Instagram user wrote.
The Moroccan cities of Tangier and Rabat are hosting the Club World Cup between February 1 and 11, with the participation of seven clubs, including the winners of the six continental football confederations and the host country’s league champions.
The participating teams include US’ Seattle Sounders, Egypt’s Al Ahly, New Zealand’s Auckland City, Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, Brazil’s Flamengo, Spain’s Real Madrid, and Morocco’s Wydad AC (host).
Seattle Sounders qualified for the tournament after becoming the first-ever Major League Soccer (MLS) club to win the continental competition Concacaf Champions League.
The opening game of the tournament took place on February 1 at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, featuring Al Ahly and Auckland city. The match ended with the Egyptian club taking the lead with a 3-0 victory.
